In the first half of 2024, the United States confirmed its position as the primary market for Italian wine exports, accounting for nearly 29% of total Italian wine sales worldwide. Data from the Federvini Observatory, in collaboration with Nomisma, show a value of 939 million euros in exports to the US, marking a 4.7% increase in value and a 2.5% growth in volume compared to the same period in 2023.

Among wine categories, still wines lead the market with 668 million euros, followed by sparkling wines, totaling 260 million euros. Prosecco, in particular, continues to drive Italian exports to the United States, reaching a value of 225 million euros and growing by 5.7% over 2023. Additionally, red wines from Tuscany and Piedmont, as well as Sicilian whites, are achieving excellent results, strengthening the presence of Italian wines in the American market.

The strategic importance of the United States for the wine sector was underscored in Chicago at "Vinitaly USA", an event organized to promote Italian wine excellence and reinforce the presence of Italian wines in the Midwest, a region with substantial growth potential. This event took place shortly after the prestigious "New York Wine Experience", hosted by Wine Spectator magazine, where the best wines of the year were honored. Among the "Top 10 Wines of 2023" were three Italian labels: Argiano's Brunello di Montalcino 2018, Mastroberardino's Taurasi Radici Riserva 2016, and Marchese Antinori's Chianti Classico Riserva 2020.

The increasing presence of Italian wine at prominent events in the United States highlights the international appreciation and competitiveness of the Italian wine industry. In this context, organizations like Federvini (a trade association of leading Italian wine producers and exporters) and industry leaders active in international markets aim to strengthen the culture of Italian wine by emphasizing its connection to history and territory - unique elements that ensure Made in Italy retains a prominent position in the global market.
