The Consortium for the Protection of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena: custodians of tradition and quality
In 1993, a group of producers from Modena created the Consortium for the Protection of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena with an ambitious goal: to obtain the recognition of the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI). After constant efforts, this prestigious recognition was achieved in 2009. Subsequently, in 2014, the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies assigned to the Consortium the official task of protecting the Balsamic Vinegar of Modena IGP.
After the achievement of these important objectives, the Consortium has expanded its activities in three key areas:
- Market monitoring and defense against imitation. Vigilant market monitoring and robust protection against imitation are integral aspects of the Consortium's commercial control initiatives. With a primary objective of ensuring accurate labeling and presentation of the product, the Consortium diligently combats the presence of counterfeit or misleading products. Collaborating closely with relevant authorities, the supervisors work diligently to enforce and uphold the regulations governing the production and distribution of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena. By doing so, they safeguard the integrity and authenticity of the product, providing consumers with the assurance of receiving a genuine and superior-quality condiment.
- Promotion and marketing. The Consortium takes an active role in promoting and highlighting the exceptional attributes of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena, actively disseminating knowledge and cultivating a deeper appreciation for this exquisite condiment. Through direct engagement with end consumers, collaborations with media outlets, and participation in trade fairs and events, the Consortium endeavors to create widespread awareness regarding the distinct qualities and cultural significance of this product. To effectively carry out their dual mission of protection and promotion, the Consortium aligns itself with esteemed national and international organizations such as the OriGIn Italia association and the Qualivita Foundation.
- Regulation and control to ensure the integrity of the product and production processes.
The Consortium for the Protection of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena has grown over time, passing from the initial 12 producers to a group of 50 companies representing the entire production chain. These companies, guardians of a long tradition, also include the historical brands which have contributed to the success of this product both in Italy and abroad since the early twentieth century.
Thanks to the Consortium's commitment, this authentic symbol of Italian identity continues to preserve its excellence, promote Italian culinary culture and conquer gastronomy enthusiasts all over the world.
